The surrounding Brandywine Valley adds extra charm to this small town far from the city. Since there is so much to do here it can be confusing when deciding what to do, so here is a list compiled of some of the most popular attractions in Wilmington DE.

Brandywine Zoo

Although small in size, the Brandywine zoo is diverse with plenty of animals and perfect for a shortstop to a local place of interest. Even though there are only 12 exhibits for animals to be witnessed, they are all extremely well taken care of and will be sure to brighten your day. The zoo has animals such as capybaras, condors, red pandas, llamas, and bobcats as well as many others and is cheap and accessible. Overall, the zoo is wheelchair and stroller accessible, is very cheap, has picnic areas as well as free parking and is full of well taken care of animals sure to put a smile on your face.

Wilmington and Western Railroad

As well as the Brandywine Zoo, the Wilmington railroad is the only operating museum in Delaware. This marvel includes tours on steam-diesel-powered trains through the scenic views of the Red Clay Valley of Wilmington. These trains operate whether rainy or not through the seasons. These train tours are perfect for any family and anyone of any age and can serve as a perfect stop to properly experience the beauty of the nearby valley.

Delaware Art Museum

This collection of famous artworks ranges from 1840 to the present day. This famous attraction founded in 1912, is best known for its impressive collection of British Pre-Raphaelite artworks. As well as British paintings, the collection included works created by Wilmington native Howard Pyle and landscape works by John Sloan and his circle/group. While you’re there you will also have the chance to experience the beautiful Copeland Sculpture Garden as well as special exhibitions in their vast garden. This vast collection of historic works is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays and includes free admission on Thursday after 4 PM (10 AM to 8 PM) and 10 to 4 on Sundays. This collection of famous and historic art is perfect for family trips or going by yourself to enjoy and learn about our historic artistry.

There are plenty of other attractions as well as these three but these are sure to get you started in Wilmington whether you are just visiting, on vacation, or you’re just there for the weekend. Either way, Wilmington and its surrounding Brandywine Valley is a beautiful location with plenty of scenes, points of interest, and attractions.
